Welcome
"Understanding an author’s message is the ultimate litmus test of reading"
(Frey, Fisher & Everlove, 2009).
Reading Comprehension is essential to all literate activity in the text- saturated society we live in. It is also the key long-term and developmental goal of school reading instruction (Luke, Dooley & Woods, 2011).
Yet, research indicates that teachers struggle to develop the required set of comprehension skills in their students, particularly in the middle and upper primary years, due to its complex nature (Sideridis, Morgan & Simos, 2013).
Reading Comprehension differs from student to student, depending on the interplay of many personal and external factors. It is complex, dynamic and occurs in a non-linear process, with no time certainties.
Understanding this nature is the first step towards teachers understanding that there is no one best approach to developing comprehension.
